The Hidden Side of Parental Grief: Debunking the 5 Stages of Loss

Aug 21, 2026

In Episode 20 of Beyond the Loss, I explore the place anger can have in the grief journey after the death of a child. I talk about the ways anger can show up quietly—in our bodies, in our relationships, in our exhaustion, or in the moments when the world seems to be carrying on as though nothing has changed.

I also share from my own experience of mothering my son, Michael, and consider a question I often return to:

What is the anger protecting?

Perhaps it is protecting love.
Perhaps it is protecting a truth that has not yet been spoken.
Perhaps it is protecting a part of you that feels unseen.

And perhaps we don’t need to answer those questions immediately.

Sometimes, we can simply notice.

“Anger is here. It is here.”

I invite you to listen to the full episode and sit with this idea for yourself. You may discover that there is something beneath the anger that is asking to be heard.
